Do you need to check your Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) balance? If you use the myHELPbalance website, important changes are coming to how you log in.

From late April 2026, students will need to use myID to access the myHELPbalance website. Currently, users log in by providing personal details, but the new system will strengthen security and streamline access.

myID is the Australian Government’s official Digital ID, already used across services like myGov to securely verify identity online. Introducing myID for myHELPbalance will help protect your personal information and remove the need to enter personal details each time you log in.

To continue using the myHELPbalance website, you will need to set up a standard identity strength in myID:

If you don’t already have myID, you can get started in 4 simple steps:

  1. Download the myID app on a smart device.
  2. Have two points of Australian ID ready for the set-up such as a passport, birth certificate, or driver licence.
  3. Choose a ‘standard’ identity strength during setup.
  4. Link myID to myHELPbalance the first time you log in.

After late April, you will not be able to access the myHELPbalance website until your myID is set up.
